Last weekend we figured out the right spell to break the 19.5 QQ curse! My sensitive tunnel loving girl earned her 20th QQ under Laura Kuterbach so she is now CH MACH Clancy’s Mischief Managed BN RE MXB MJS MXF T2B SWE SCM SBM SHDE FCAT PCSH CGCU TKA.
I think it’s hard to be the daughter of a rockstar like Spice. Ginny has reminded me to be patient, that pressure is no fun, and that tunnels are always off course options, even when they are 100 feet away.
To earn a MACH a dog needs to double Q (or QQ) twenty times in the Master classes. You earn double Qs by running perfectly and under course time on both the standard and jumpers with weaves courses on the same day. You also need to earn 750 speed points. One point is earned for each full second under standard course time on Master courses. In other words, you need to be perfect and reasonably fast on a pretty consistent basis.
Sometimes performance championship titles like MACHs are seen as lesser than a breed championship. Here’s some food for thought- a dog can become a breed champion in as few as 3 shows. Earning a MACH takes a bare minimum of 29 trials, nine to work your way up to Master and then 20 for the QQs. In reality, this would be very unlikely to happen since the qualifying rate in agility is usually 50% or less.
Ginny is very smart and athletic, but her agility career has been bumpy at times. She’s pretty sensitive and depending on the situation can stress up and take every tunnel in the ring over and over, or stress down and walk through the course. Finding the happy medium of keeping her motivated but also calm enough to feel secure and focused isn’t easy. We’ve also had a lot of breaks in training and trialing. Prior to giving birth to singleton Bee in 2024, I had unsuccessfully tried to breed Ginny 3 times. Each of these 4 breeding attempts meant taking several months off from training and trialing. I’ve very grateful to have Bee and sometimes breeders need to prioritize their breeding program over competition goals, but it did mean a lot of starting over again with Ginny’s agility career.
Ginny and I hope you enjoy this video of her 20th QQ!
